Lorraine Schuld - Biography

I am an artist living in Western Canada in Alberta, a beautiful province of majestic Rocky Mountains, grain fields as far as the eye can see, and everything in between. Four distinct seasons influence my desire to capture the landscape as it is ever changing. Extensive travels across Canada, the USA, and Europe have also provided much wonderful subject matter for me to paint. Besides landscapes and travel-inspired images, I enjoy floral painting which is a world unto itself. I work mostly in acrylics these days. I also use oils, alcohol inks, and encaustics, using brushes, palette knives, and just hands to develop texture and interesting surfaces.

I have had the privilege to study with numerous incredible artists including David Langevin, Eileen Rauscher-Sutton, Mike Svob, Carol Nelson, Bob Burridge, several Mastrius master artists, and artists at the University of Alberta. I have graduated from the UofA Extension Fine Art certificate program. Many special art friends have enriched my painting experience. My family and husband have been a great encouragement.

I have been a musician all my life, teaching, conducting, arranging, performing, accompanying. This greatly influences my visual art. My faith in my wonderful Creator God calls me to express my heart on canvas and keyboard. I am grateful for every day that I spend trying to capture the essence of my surroundings, memories, and thoughts. Art has provoked me to wake up to the life I'm living in. I hope to draw in my viewers intellectually, emotionally, experientially, and spiritually with reaction beyond the image that challenges thinking and feelings. We need to see ourselves and the world around us in new and better ways.

I trust you will enjoy my paintings. I hope my art brightens your day and brings joy to your life!
